A proper 'cast'
can mean power - golf tip - Brief Article |
Many golfers
waste power by unhinging their wrists much too early from the top
of the swing. You can increase your clubhead speed by cocking and
uncocking your wrists correctly.
Learn to add lag at the top
Think of how you cast with a fishing rod: You swing the rod back
over your shoulder, fully setting your wrist. As your arm brings
the rod forward, your wrist not only maintains that wrist cock,
but actually adds to the angle before snapping forward.
That's the same motion you want to achieve from the top of the
golf swing. Instead of throwing the club from the top by unhinging
your wrists immediately, you want to add lag by sharpening the
angle created by the clubshaft and forearms. With this motion,
the clubhead lags behind the hands well into the downswing, catching
up only as it speeds through the impact zone.
