Golfing From the Rough of the Golf Course

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

It can be easiest said that when you, as a golfer, find yourself in the rough, the first and primary concern on your part is simply plan in your mind how is that you will get out of your predicament. Others have done this and show cans you. First and foremost make your basic plan of how you can play your golf ball out of the rough and into a better and easier area of the golfing fairway. It is best to work out in your mind a simple plan to find a line, or the line, which will get you back on the fairway. On top of that you do not have to overly ambitious or extravagant overall. It’s a fairly simple and self explanatory goal.

Watch out though, many beginning golfers make what might be called the most simple mistake of assuming that their normal, smooth , free swing will do the trick. Watch out – this can spell danger. Your club head arc can shave the ground at the start of the back swing, at the bottom of the downswing and at the beginning of your “follow through”. If the rough is thick, it will tangle the club head causing you nothing but frustrations and problems with their golf shot.

Work best to visualize an action which will in essence and simply strike into the back of your golf ball, without getting your club head caught up in that deadly grass. If it can be simply explained – then you must strike down into the ball on a steeper arc than normal. Select a lofted club. This will help you get more flight of the golf ball into the air.

If it happens, in your game of golf, that the rough lays slight, take the ball in the middle of a slightly open golfing stance. Overall the thicker the rough gets, the further back from the ball your stance should be. Next in line, grip the golf club down the shaft a little more for control, but do your best not to attempt what might be considered a full swing. A three quarter swing should be and will be sufficient – sometimes even a half swing will do the job. However do not take the time to worry about your follow-through of your golf swing. Simply let it all happen. Indeed sometimes you might not be able to follow through it all because of the actual lie of the course.

It can be best said that the most important thing overall is to concentrate on bringing the club head of your golfing club into the ball on an angle. This angle will be determined by the lie and the thickness of the grass around your golf ball.
